About me

I am a Deaf interpreter and educator.

I hold a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting. I am also a certified International Sign interpreter (CISI #2), with training from Rochester Institute of Technology.

I work as an interpreter and have 19 years of experience as a Senior Lecturer in sign language and interpreting.

Alongside my professional work, I am actively involved in advocacy. I am a board member of Finnish Association of the Deaf, where I have also served as Vice Chairperson. I also served as a member of the Finnish Sign Language Board from 2018 to 2024.

Through my work as an interpreter, I am closely connected to accessibility, communication, and linguistic rights in everyday life.

My academic work focuses on Deaf culture and social media discourse on interpreter services. I am committed to promoting equal rights, access to information, and strong Deaf communities.

Three areas I want to influence in the EUD board

1. Improving accessibility in communication
Deaf people must have access to clear information in crisis situations, public services, and communication with authorities.

2. Supporting the well-being of Deaf seniors
Deaf seniors must be valued and included. Many of them have worked to secure the rights we have today. They must have access to quality services, support, and the opportunity to live with dignity.

3. Strengthening cooperation across Europe
Closer cooperation between EUD, national associations, local communities, and the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) is key to meeting the needs of Deaf people across Europe.

With these goals, I aim to strengthen accessibility, equality, and cooperation.
